Shut down the MTA. It doesn't sound like you will be needing it any longer.

Sounds like you may have cached DNS/Wins stuff in there. How long ago did
you remove 5.5?

Hello, all -

Environment: single Exchange 2000 server, SP2, recently switched to native
mode after moving to new hardware and moving mailboxes and public folders
from E5.5, SP4.

I keep getting the following errors in the Application log: They started
when I took down the Exchange 5.5 server (before removing it from the
organization). Dinsmore is the name of the old 5.5 server. There is no
discernible pattern for when these events occur.

Source: MSExchangeMTA
Category: Interface
Event ID: 9318

Description: An RPC communications error occurred. Unable to bind over RPC.
Locality Table (LTAB) index: 215, Windows 2000/MTA error code: 1753. Comms
error 1753, Bind error 0, Remote Server Name DINSMORE [MAIN BASE 1 500 %10]
(14)

And

Source: MSExchangeTransport
Category: Connection Manager
Event ID: 4000

Description: Message delivery to the remote domain
'bobobear.keene.edu,monadnock.keene.edu' failed for the following
reason: The handle is invalid.

We use the two UNIX SendMail servers as Smart Hosts for SMTP to the
Internet. The mail is moving from the E2K server to the SendMail servers and
off to the Internet. I have researched both errors on TechNet, EventID.Net
and the Internet and have come up with nothing. Before I call Microsoft, I
thought I would run this one by you folks.

Any thoughts as to what is happening here?

Thanks,

Pat
