I see nothing wrong with it as long as the proper files and directories are
excluded, especially in the case of E2K where IIS is a requirement on every
box. Assuming a properly provisioned box, I don't really see a downside to
the practice.

As to the point of it being nonsense not to... well, I think that depends on
a number of factors. In 1998, Microsoft PSS routinely cautioned against
running Exchange aware AV products in general, today we'd consider that
nonsense (some of us did in 1998). Any blanket statement is false, including
this one.
