Well said Gregory. I too work for a smaller company and am routinely faced with chanllenges which fall well outside my normal areas of 'expertise'[1]. Resources like this one and various others make my life much easier. Finding people who know more about a topic you need help in, and who are willing to share that expertise is a cause for joy.
Those who, on this list or on others learn to properly frame their issues, research problems and then relay their quandry to their peers are already miles ahead of those who lack those skills even if they are further behind the curve in a certain topic area. There is a basic, fundamental toolset which all technical folks ought to have. It's fairly evident from this forum (and many, many others) that too few admins have a grasp of the fundamental tools required to do their jobs or, have grown sloppy in their maintenance and usage of said tools. I guess some people get offended when pointed back to their toolbox, but I for one enjoy exercising my basic skills as often and as thoroughly as possible. It's amazing what one can learn sometimes by doing so. Course when all else fails, deja.com or the archives are a good source of info. I consider myself a pretty good admin. I may not know everything there is to know about Exchange Administration, but I know where the knowledge bases and these kind of discussion lists are. A lot of us are trying to learn to be good Email Admins. I admit that there are some pretty bad questions that come across this list. I've said my two cents.. I don't care if anyone likes it or doesn't. I remember just getting into Exchange and trying to make sure I did everything just right so it didn't cause me serious headaches down the road.
