Have you set up Deleted Items retention on the server? Or, to reiterate what Chris said: if you've followed the Ed Crowley Never Restore Method, you're okay.
If you have not - you're pretty much stuck. If you've got good backups, you can do a restore to another server, play back the logs, and get the message back that way.
