Hi all. I was just trying to help someone with a seeminly easy thing but could not figure it out.
This guy has two Windows 2000 Server SP3 machines. Both machines have two NICs. One is using an internal 192.168.0.x address and the other NIC is using an external IP address. One is already a domain controller. The second one is a member and he is trying to promote it to become domain controller #2. Dcpromo fails a minute or so after it starts and complains about not being able to do some Netbios-related stuff with his dc#1.domain.com He can ping dc#1 from dc#2 and vice versa. He can do net view \\dc#1 from dc#2 and vice versa. He can do ping ip_address_#1 from dc#2 and vice versa. However he cannot do net view \\dc#1.domain.com from dc#2 and vice versa. He gets System Error 53. Network path not found. We checked everything. The machines are registered in DNS. We even created HOSTS files and LMHOSTS files, although there was no problem pinging without them anyway. We tried only registering the internal IPs - did not help We tried only registering the external IPs - did not help We tried disabling the internal NIC - did not help We checked and re-checked the DNS We made sure that the NetBIOS over TCP/IP was enabled We made sure that bindings were in place Could someone please give me any more ideas? Thanks! _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:leave-exchange@;ls.swynk.com Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
