It will work fine as long as it is set up correctly. We didn't upgrade
any of our 74 resource domains when we migrated. We had a veritable
buttload of ADC's connecting to 14 NT4 domains when we migrated. We are
Native AD and E2K now with no after effects. 

If you need any insight, let me know. But it is possible, and reasonably
common.

I believe so, but you'll likely want to test your particular
configuration in a lab prior to upgrading. You'll also want to have a
clear long term strategy for completing the migration.
