The entire setup sounds fishy to me. First guess is that one or more of the Exchange ports is getting filtered at one of the two firewalls. Part of the problem is that Exchange grabs random ports, but default, for the Information Store and other services. Makes it very difficult to get through firewalls. There are Technet articles on setting static ports. IT could also be that the NetBIOS ports are being filtered, as you still need to log into Exchange.
That being said, this is screaming for a VPN solution, rather than exposing a few dozen ports to the outside world on your production Exchange box. ------------------------------------------------------ Roger D.
