I had the same problem when sending email via MAPI with my backup software. If you create a MAPI profile of the account you're using to send with, then you can use the registry settings to bypass security. This URL has lot's of links on how to bypass the security in specific situations.

I find it much easier to NOT use MAPI when sending mail with VB. You can do it directly using the Winsock control or you can buy a SMTP ActiveX control.
