David's data is good, but perhaps the explanation of "why" included in the tech data is wanting.
Is it "caused" by a client error induced by a portable device? Perhaps if it was a one-off situation, the probability of that would be high, and it may be the case in your situation. However, in the past few years in my experience, most DHCP errors of this type are introduced by someone having connected a SOHO router or combination router/WiFi access pointwith either or both NAT and its DHCP service enabled. Go looking for an access point installed by a user (or heaven forbid, the manager in charge of either your networking or R&D organization - oh yes, that happens). -----Original Message----- From: Sanjeev Sharma [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, January 29, 2003 3:43 PM To: Exchange Discussions Cc: 'Exchange Discussions' Subject: DHCP won't renew lease Importance: High I am currently having an issue with one of the subnets on our DHCP servers and I could use your help. On one of the subnets DHCP won't renew the leasing of IP address to any of the clients. The clients who already have IP address lease to them are working normally but whichever one got rebooted could not get the new or same IP address. In the event viewer I see an event ID 1011 with the following warning "The DHCP Server issued a NACK to the client (client's hardware address) for the address (IP address) request. Has anyone seen this before? This server is running NT 4.0 Server SP 6a. Thanks much in advance for any help. _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
