I have seen this behavior with several AV software packages (Groupshield, Grousphield 2000, NAV, and Trend. What I have seen happen is that the AV software takes more time depending on the size of the message. At times I have had to double click on an attachment multiple times before it will open. A lack of patience on my part is likely here.
Anyway, I don't think you are encountering anything out of the ordinary here.
