Why not: 5.5 --> E2K in old site --> move mbx to new h/w in new AG

If I can't move servers between AG's in mixed or native mode, I would still need a 2nd intermediate server for each Site/AG to move to the final AG. Is that what your suggesting? i.e. for each 5.5 site: 5.5 --> move mbx to new h/w --> E2K in old site --> move mbx to new h/w in new AG >>>I don't see why the second step, "move mbx to new h/w", is required. I didn't think that I could move Exchange 5.5 users from SiteA to a new E2K server in a different AG in one hop. I don't know why I thought that. Brain fart praps, PMS, I dunno. -----Original Message----- From: Ed Crowley [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, 26 February 2003 9:08 a.m. To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: SRS and E2K Migration questions 1. Yes, taking the old site's display name. 2. Yes, and even then you can't move servers, just users. 3. You'll have to move to an E2K server in the original site, then, once in native mode, from the original administrative group to the final one. But you only need to bring up one intermediate server, the new E2K server in the original administrative group. 4. The SRS gets created automatically on the first Exchange 2000 server you bring up in a mixed site. Don't worry about it; there is nothing you need to do with it. I haven't moved to a test environment yet as I just want to understand the concepts first. We have 5 sites each with 1 x 5.5 server in a hub and spoke topology. We plan to migrate site at a time reusing hardware from the previous site. (mixed mode AD currently in place, single domain) 1. As we migrate to E2K in a mixed environment, each site will become an AG in it's own right. Correct? 2. This means that I can only reach my ideal model of a single AG when we have migrated completely and switched to native mode. Yes? 3. Can I do this in a single hop method...ie install my E2K server in the 5.5 site, move my 5.5 mbxs etc, and then follow Q284148 to remove the 5.5 server completely from the Site/AG before moving on to the next site, or do I need another temp server and move users twice. Once from 5.5 into Same Site/AG but on E2K server, and then onto a different E2K server in the final AG? 4. Do I need an SRS server in each AG while I have 5.5 servers in the Org? Any help or pointers very much appreciated. Rgds, Leeann NOTICE - This e-mail is only intended to be read by the named recipient.
