You didn't have to unplug it. You could have promoted it to the new PDC. Then load Server 2000. Either way, the new box that I installed as a BDC gets the full SAM database since I have replicated with the PDC before I unplugged it from the network. Didn't you like the preferred procedures from MS. Pulled the BDC off of the network and upgraded the newer BDC to PDC. Once I promoted the BDC to PDC, I then installed Windows 2000 and ran DCPROMO to installed Active Directory. Installed DNS and configured properly. I ran the tests and its working properly. Current Forest Root has DHCP, DNS, Wins and all the FSMO roles on the same server. Now I am trying to connect my Exchange 5.5 to this Active Directory. I hope this is clear. By the way, the reason for me doing this way is because, we want to keep the same domain name as before and very little downtime. Is this a additional server or did you upgarde an exsisting NT 4.0 Controller. Not enough info. Sounds like you didn't plan well. Can some one tell me where I can find a step by step instruction on how to connect my Exchange 5.5 SP4 server to my new Active Directory? I am primarily looking fot the Active Directory Connector and where to find and how to install it and how to make the two work together. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
