Hi all. Someone asked me to help them restore their Exchange server that had crashed. Basically they just wanted to get the mail data exported to PSTs. The crashed server is in a remote geographical location and there is no one there who could restore it there or rebuild the server.
They have valid backups. Plus their AD Domain controller and the front-end Exchange servers are still alive, so I was able to get in and check things with ESM and ADSI and find out all the necessary info, like org name, admin group name, server name, storage group names and paths, information store names and paths, LegacyExchangeDN of all objects... Then I built a fake Exchange 2000 server in my office that looks identical to the crashed one. Then I restored the mailbox information stores - no problem. Exported the mail data into PST files. The problem was with restoring the public folder store. The restore process went fine, but the PF store will not mount. It gives me these errors: 3108 While starting the Microsoft Information Store service, it is detected that the public store /o=MY_ORG/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=MY_SERVER/cn=Microsoft Public MDB now has a new object GUID 08A92C05-07C1-4AC1-8AAF-63704259EECD. The former object GUID is DB3190FB-31E0-4DC5-B30D-1074349FD7B7 3110 Encountered a problem when try to fix all the replica lists after it is detected that the public store /o=MY_ORG/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=MY_SERVER/cn=Microsoft Public MDB now has new object GUID. Error %2. Some public folders could now become ghosted MY_ORG and MY_SERVER are not the actual names. I changed them in this message to protect the innocent. There is also a twist to this. By default the Exchange public folder store is called "Public Folder Store (Servername)" and it uses pub1.edb and pub1.stm files. Well these people changed it to "Public Store (MY_SERVER)" and also used different .edb and .stm file names. So on my recovery system I had to do the same to macth everything (otherwise the restore would not work at all) So now I am trying to figure out if this is a problem in general with restoring public folder store to another server or if it is caused by this renaming. _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
