Oh no, I absolutely understand how someone could end up in the job and have to learn
as they go. No issues there.
I mean it more in the sense of, I don't understand how anyone could be competent as a
mail admin without also being comptent in DNS.

And yes - you're correct; if your dns is messed up, neither sendmail or
qmail is going work, for sure.
