My opinion is turn off account lockout and forgo the audit crap until you can convert these users to MAPI connections. I never found a solution that addressed the root of the problem. We are running windows xp with the pop3 connector. several of my users accounts are getting locked out as if they are entering and incorrect password. The users account information (password) is not being recognized my the exchange server. Need to reset password and recreate account on local machine..
