Hmmm...not an easy to troubleshoot, that one. I'm not sure how much you've already ruled out, but:
1. Whack up the MSExchangeTransport event logs to see if any more info is given. 2. Verify DNS connectivity is OK, e.g. nslookup, etc. 3. Can you telnet to another server from this server on port 25 and send mail manually?
Try those first. If all else fails, there's always smtpreinstall.exe on the E2k CD.
