I've had this problem before too. For some reason a certain mail message gets "corrupt" and cannot be opened or deleted. I use MDBVU32.EXE to pull out the individual message. Be careful using it though. There is an option to delete a single mail message. Read up on it so you don't accidentally crap your system out.
