Well Jake, you can look at it like this.

The database isn't going to grow anymore until you fill up that white space,
so reducing its size may not do much. Sure it will free up disk space, but
chances are it will just get eaten up again.

There is always a risk when doing this kind of stuff. You may want to try it
in a lab environment before going any further.
