Definitely third party software. Sometimes it seems like it is more important to them that their niche software works more than Outlook.

Well, if you're going to include 3rd party software: salesforce.com's outlook edition doesn't work -- unloads itself, and their won't-hold-you-to-it time line is 1Q04 for support.
