What are the consequences of an open relay? I know of one that I cannot get them to change because one users wants to send email from his home account. It makes me angry but they will not listen. Maybe if I show them some valid reason other than being black listed they might wake up.

When your system is configured as an open relay, then spammers are able to steal your resources and use them to steal other people's resources. They're not forcing anyone to use their lists - the lists are available as a service only. The people who use those lists have chosen not to receive mail from open relays. They're merely protecting their own property from misguided and/or malicious property owners/caretakers such as those who run open relays.
You are free to ignore them, if you wish. But you must be prepared to deal with the consequences if you do.
BTW, Siegfried, how's that Event Sink coming to allow E2K to use the RBL?

I have been watching my IMS queue. I haven't found any from ORBZ but from ORBS Mail-abuse, RBS or something like that and two others I just can't remember.
I haven't had a problem with them removing me from there lists, usually takes less than a day and usually in a few hours.
I don't like the fact that you get black listed and you are not notified. And I also don't like the fact that some outside organization is determining how we as admins set up our systems. I know I can't fight it, but it is the way it is.

Individual mail admins can block on their own, even without using one of the "blackhole" lists.
Also check www.mail-abuse.org to make sure you're not in their RBL.

I found a junior admin had opened us up. I fixed it, twice, fixed the Junior Admin once, and am still finding sites that blocks us.
Anybody have a good list of which are the sites that do this blocking stuff.
What a pain.

Hey, Bill, check out this page: http://www.orbz.org/sysadmin-darkside.php

Use this page to report a

you report will be
removed from our blackhole list
and added to our queue
for testing. It will then be

does not allow relaying, or
readded to one or more of
our lists if it does.

I don't mind you testing,
When you say I am correct, you mean "correct, your machines are configured not to relay"
I have been in email contact with Orbz, and their basic responce is "f*ck you, if you are on our list, you have an open relay, we don't have to prove anything to you."

You are correct (I tested it, hope you don't mind). I don't know how you got on the list. You have to contact them to get off the list. It's totally automated though, so good luck.

Anyone had any dealings with these guys? http://www.orbz.org
They say that my gateway machines are an "open relay". We are using the SMTP service out of the NT 4.0 Option Pack, SP6A
I know I have them configured to only relay messages for our internal servers.
