I shouldn't even need to worry about AD I would think.  I just want to add a 5.5 server to the same site of the other 5.5 server.  I shouldn't need an ADC for this purpose I would think.  But of course I don't know otherwise I wouldn't be posting :)  I'm was thinking it could be RPC but I do RPC ping and it says it's fine.  I don't think it's permissions.  I'm not even that far yet to tell it which acct. to use.  So confused.

this is the error you are getting on the win2k server right? from what don has asked you, you have Ad setup? if that is the issue then this a DDNs error. make sure that you have this server pointed to an AD DDNs server, and with 5.5 and AD you have an issue with LDAP change the port number on the 5.5 servers. not sure that will help but it could be an issue.

Subject: Connecting another Exchange 5.5 Server

Hello all:

I have 2 domains.  First NT4 Server domain- NT 4 Server SP 6a Exchange 5.5 SP4 running on a BDC.  Trying to install another 5.5 server in a 2000 domain.  Machine is 2000 Server DC SP2.  I want this Exchange server to be in the same site as the other server.  2-way trust is up and verified.  Can ping both ways no problem.  Domains in separate buildings but connected via 802.11b.  I'm sure I need to provide more info but the error I'm getting is:

Failed to connect to server. .
The Microsoft Exchange Server computer does not respond. .
ID No. DS_E_COMMUNICATIONS_PROBLEM

This occurs on the screen when installing Exchange 5.5 when you tell it you want to join an existing site and to type in the name of the server you want to join to.  Can ping.  Have LMHOSTS, HOSTS.  The error occurs immediately when I click to go to the next screen (like it doesn't take time to search for the other server).  Has anyone seen this one before?  Please let me know what other info I need to give.  Thanks.

David
