I've never found them tricky.
I have, however, found ArcServe crappy.

Exchange backups (and especially restores) are very
tricky. The Arcserve line (several products) works
well once you get it setup but it is tricky. I've
never looked at Backup Exec but hopefully it is easier
to use.
