from 3 to 4 drives is a significant boost in RAID 5 and it a drive dies the
resulting changes will be minor compared to going to two disk. In test systems I
have seen the exchange system shutdown for 35 minutes when a disk died with
only a three disk with a 15 gig store. The same system was down less
then 2 minutes when a fourth disk was added then taken
away,
