An alternative to creating Hosts files for the Mac is to use an Internal
DNS (Caching or Authoritative) and have the entry for the Exchange
Server as a record and have the Macs use the Internal DNS as there
primary DNS. The DNS will also answer any DNS lookups and cache the
results so that future lookups will be answer locally and much faster
than an external DNS would. i have done this in the past to resolve any
issues with Macs accessing Exchange and havent had any problems. The
Host files is a good option but if your IP scheme changes and you forgot
the Mac has the file then you will spend a long time trying to figure
out why they wont access the server any more. When you create a Mac Host
file, it uses a format different than what PC's uses so a lookup on it
on Apple's dB to find the correct syntax.

A Macintosh on an NT network isn't a happy thing.. but
for the most part it does work. We have a few diehards that will NOT
swtich to PC, so they suffer a bit. If anyone's ever been able to get
the Mac's to dial in and retrieve mail I'd love to know how.
I can make it dial in and it seems to connect and stay
connected to the server, but that's the extent of it. I can't connect to
the exchange server.

Subject: Exchange 5.5 troubles with Mac's
I have an Exchange 5.5 SP4 server that works
fine with the win2k machines on my network, but is just starting to have
problems with some macs. I setup 5 macs on my network to use the server
and it was working fine for a day and a half, but now when they go to
open outlook 8.2 on their Mac, it asks for the login info, but then
errors out saying they have network issues and to talk to your
administrator. I am at a lost, as I am not a Mac expert. The macs are
able to access network resources as well as the internet. Any ideas?
