Unfortunately, I believe your wrong, in fact Microsoft recommends that
the firewall client be used on servers. I have had my the same solution
working at home for months, no problem, I was trying to setup my buddy the same
way and was having these problems, I talked to him last night and the cable was
down for about 4 hours and when it came back up, everything worked again, so im
thinking they had something going on.

Subject: RE: E2k helpChris,Don't use the firewall client on the Exchange Server. The default firewall client settings disable connections from the inetinfo.exe process, which includes (among other things) the Exchange SMTP Virtual Server. This will cause SMTP to work via telnet, but not through Exchange. Make the Exchange Server a SecureNAT client. You might be able to get around this by changing the Firewall Client settings in ISA Management, but I'd recommend against it. Just use SecureNAT (i.e., set the default gateway of the Exchange server to the IP of the ISA Firewall). I just finished getting this same scenario working this week (after encountered the same problem).Regards,Nathanael KlassenList Charter and FAQ at:-----Original Message-----

Subject: E2k helpHey guys, I have an interesting problem, and actually im posting this for my buddy, but here goes....he has a cable internet connection setup with MediaCom (local cable company)....which uses DHCP, most of the time its reliable....anyhow, he has a domain bahbah.net with directnic, directnic is setup to forward any email coming into [EMAIL PROTECTED] to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (his old email account). To detail his network, it goes like thisCABLE--->USR Cable modem--->ISA Firewall--->Hub--->Exchange 2000 Serverwe are using a pop downloaded to download messages from datacruz and put them into exchange....which is working fine, the problem is with outgoing mail....E2k SMTP is setup to deliver mail itself no smart host. All email is in the "retry" state in the queues....and the queue's say "the remote server did not respond to a connection attempt" we cannot figure this out, as to we were having this problem before but it went away and im not sure what I did to fix it. But it was working and now its not....the weird part is that lets say he is sending email to hotmail.com and the mx record for hotmail.com is mail.hotmail.com, he can fully telnet into port 25 on mail.hotmail.com from the exchange box....we are using the ISA firewall client on the exchange box....any ideas? Thanks,Chris PedenInformation Technology DirectorSundowner Interiors1110 CR6 WestElkhart, IN 46514P: 574-262-1523F: 574-264-0022List Charter and FAQ at:
