A true Southerner knows that "fixin'" can be used as a noun, a verb, or an adverb. I'm fixin' to forward this to some of my friends! Or "fiddenta", as we say around here. 13.) Only true Southerners make friends while standing in lines. We don't do "queues", we do "lines," and when we're "in line," we talk to everybody! I was so confused when, as a child, I moved from the deep south to New York and heard people talking about waiting "on line." I kept looking at the floor trying to find the line they were standing on. Thankfully, a year later we left NY and headed south again! 15.) True Southerners never refer to one person as "y'all." A pet peeve of mine. When Hollywood tries to imitate southerners, it has actors saying "y'all" to just one person. Drives me nuts. 16.) True Southerners know grits come from corn and how to eat them. With salt, and sometimes cheese. Never with sugar. 19.) Only true Southerners say "sweet tea" and "sweet milk." Sweet tea indicates the need for sugar and lots of it - we do not like our tea unsweetened. "Sweet milk" means you don't want buttermilk. Actually, in a good southern restaurant you don't have to say "sweet." If you order tea, it will be sweet-because why on earth would anyone want tea that WASN'T sweet?! 20.) And a true Southerner knows you don't scream obscenities at little old ladies who drive 30 MPH on the freeway. You just say, "Bless her heart" and go your own way. In the south, you can utter all sorts of insults without being considered rude if you follow them up with a "bless his/her heart."
