In this case, we want the MFP to be able to send to internal users, but
not external. If they need to send something from an MFP to an external
address, they have to scan it and email it to themselves and then
forward it to the external address from Outlook. That way, the From:
address is always theirs, and any replies or NDR's will always come back
to them, and we have an audit trail.

Rob,

If you are using Hub Transports in Exchange 2007 you should be able to
set the IP address of the sending "server" as an anonymous relay on
Hub01. In this case it would be the IP address the MFP. We do that
with and don't have any problem with non-authenticating MFP's sending
email to internal users.

I've got some that won't do user authentication, and I set them up with
a From: address that wasn't in one of my authoritative domains (or a
real domain for that matter), and then pointed it to one of my Exchange
hub servers as it's mail host.

The Exchange server won't act as an open relay, so they don't have any
choice but to send it to themselves and then forward it.

Have the user authenticate at the MFP. Most devices will allow for user
authentication.

I am not sure if it can be done but here is the scenario:

I have copiers that can scan to a pdf and be sent out to email. Many
have this not a new item.

I tell my users to send to themselves and not directly to a customer
from the copier because that person will most always send a reply and
the copier is not a real user.

Is there a way to have the return email from the copier find the user.
This will help with another issue I have a program that notifies people
or customers of automated updates.

The customer is going to respond to that email how can do people handle
these situation.

Thank you

David
