A couple of things come to mind. You can try mail enabling it and see if that lets you remove the address, and then mail-disable it.
Or take it straight to the source with ADSIEdit. From: Paul Hutchings [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, September 27, 2011 10:13 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: SMTP Address is un use by a non mail-enabled Public Folder?! Just came to setup a DL and the SMTP address we want to use is already in use. I ran adfind and found it. folderPathname is listed, as is proxyAddresses. However, when I use the EMC Public Folders console to browse to that location, the public folder is not mail enabled, so I have no idea how I'm supposed to remove the email address so that I can use it where I want to? This is on Exchange 2010 SP1 RU 3v3.
