I am wondering what the long-term future of the SMS sync feature is.. In general it sounds like a great feature.. And as Richard says, outside the US we have lots of SMS messages (or even unlimited) included in monthly consumer deals.
However as a user I am not sure I would want this; most of my texts are personal and very few are business related, would I want an SMS from my wife demanding to know why I'm not home yet synced up to the corporate mail server? No! I was also discussing this feature with a customer the other day and they had a good point - shouldn't this be a Lync integration? I am with Joe on the Notes sync, the OneNote apps IMHO are the future. (BTW, as this is a bit OT, it may be a good chance to introduce myself to the list, hello everyone both to those I know and those I don't!) I've got more SMS to use each month that I know what to do with - I'm not sure who decided they shouldn't include it based on the cost, but whatever. Have now voted for it :) Richard From: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> [mailto:[email protected]]<mailto:[mailto:[email protected]]> On Behalf Of Michael B. And was a given a low priority. Honestly, I have NO CLUE when, if ever, it may appear again. It's WAY down the WP vote list. That being said: go vote for it. I have. Not that the team does everything the public asks for, but they do pay close attention to those feature requests and votes. http://windowsphone.uservoice.com/forums/101801-feature-suggestions/suggestions/1549717-sync-sms-with-exchange?ref=title Regards, Michael B. They don't have the full ActiveSync feature set, but just enough to cover what most people need. Even with the improvements in WP7.5, the iPhone and newer Android phones have more complete ActiveSync compatibility than Microsoft's own phone OS (which again, hits the highlights of what most people need). SMS sync is a feature with fairly limited support across any of the devices... Wikipedia has a good feature comparison of the different phone OS's... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Exchange_ActiveSync_clients Joe Pochedley Network & Telecommunications Manager Fives North American Combustion, Inc. v: +1 216.206.5505 f: +1 216.641.7852 From: Sobey, Richard A [mailto:[email protected]]<mailto:[mailto:[email protected]]> Sent: Monday, November 21, 2011 10:51 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: A bit OT - ActiveSync and WinPhone 7.5 Hiya all, Sorry this is slightly off-topic but it's to do with ActiveSync, so not altogether out there :) I've got a new Windows Phone 7.5 handset and configured an Exchange account. I'm surprised by the seeming lack of ability to synchronise text messages OTA with ActiveSync. I only get options to sync email, contacts, calendar and tasks. Since you could do this with Windows Mobile 6.5, I'm shocked you can't do it in Windows Phone. Can anyone else verify my findings?
