exheres-0 now has src_fetch_extra support. For an example, have a look
at hddtemp-data::ciaranm.

I've not converted the scm exlibs over (hopefully someone else will do
that...), but when someone does, you'll need to have upgraded Paludis
beforehand, so you probably want to upgrade Paludis now.

Note that src_fetch_extra is run as its own special phase, and isn't
part of the normal phase order sequence. This means there's no env
saving, and things like $WORK don't exist. Anything you download has to
go in $FETCHEDDIR.

src_fetch_extra is probably only to be used for scm packages and a few
special fake scm data packages. If you find yourself wanting to use it
for anything else, mail the list or ask on IRC. It's probably not what
you should be using.
