This is why I'd REALLY like to see some throttling built into Exim. I suggested it 2 years ago (http://www.exim.org/mail-archives/exim-users/Week-of-Mon-20030908/msg00116.html) and while I wouldn't take my suggestion word-for-word any more, the rate limiting concept with directive similar to the retry configuration would be nice.
