yes, of course is present in the /etc/services file:

(copied and pasted directly)

smtp            25/tcp          # Simple Mail Transfer


Any ideas?

Is smtp listed in /etc/services?  You should see this:
# grep smtp /etc/services smtp 25/tcp mail #
Or similar.
