Ben, It is highly unlikely that EXIM is doing anything to your attachment as Exim treats attackements as raw data and just sends it along ... unless you have somthing in your config that does... What do you logs say? are you running anykind of content scanning on out-bound messages? Can you have your sending server send to a local account on the exim box? and download it with thunderbird from that account? What kind of server is sending the message with what command?
