originating on the server, exim would check for an MX record or A
record, and use it, rather than checking first to see if it could
deliver locally.
perhaps it's because it is too late, but I miss your point. The first
router is usually:
dnslookup:
driver = dnslookup
domains = ! +local_domains
transport = remote_smtp
etc...
no_more
and this does exactly what, in my current understanding, you say.
