Looks like after attempting to use the AUTH command via telnet it wasn't allowed unless advertised so I changed the one line to. server_advertise_condition = 1 Then it appeared to start querying my saslauthd finally! But why was all my authentication attempts previously showing up as passed ? Perhaps some bug in smtptest client... who knows...
