Such a feature might work well in a closed environment, but in the internet at large it does not. Even worse if it's done at MTA level.
There was a recent discussion on the list about the use of out-of-office messages. IMHO this is a very similar discussion. You can end up producing a massive amount of automated response but still don't know for sure if it works for the one important message it would be useful for.
