No-one's born with the experience, everyone on the list has had to learn 
from scratch.

In my last email I said " So what _exactly_ are you typing?  What 
_exact_ error messages are you  getting?  How does what you get differ 
from your expectations?".  Until you answer these questions I don't see 
how anyone can help you further.

If exim isn't running, or it isn't configured to listen on 127.0.0.1, 
then that's exactly the behaviour I would expect.
