Ever noticed that http://www.exim.org/exim-html-current/doc/html/spec_html/index.html is **incredibly** long?
It was a wonderful step forward to have the current docs constantly referenced like this and I'm sure it's helped the google rank etc. I'm also sure it made things much easier to find for those 2-3 people a year that actually read the docs before they post.. oops, off on a tangent there. Unfortunately I can't find the reference right now, but somewhere out there on the internet is an article written many years ago about making the perfect URL. This URL would stand the test of time against back end changes, language changes, server changes and countless other travesties of time. Here's the gist. Make it as short as possible. Don't restrict it to a file extention like php,php3,asp Make it easy to type for those not using search engines. (I added that) The original author made it so much more compelling. Anyway. I propose that we use a one line command to change the URL for the docs forever! Not by breaking the existing filing system we have or stuffing up the mirrors (hopefully). Using "ln -s" or apache rewrite, we change the docs URL to : http://www.exim.org/docs/ And let's throw a targeted goggle search at the top too, just for kicks. I can see how this might confuse people looking for the filter spec instead of the manual/exim spec, but I'm sure we can get around that by sticking the filter spec in as a link (Sorry Nigel) -- The Exim Manual http://www.exim.org/docs.html http://www.exim.org/exim-html-current/doc/html/spec_html/index.html -- ## List details at http://lists.exim.org/mailman/listinfo/exim-users ## Exim details at http://www.exim.org/ ## Please use the Wiki with this list - http://wiki.exim.org/
