I compared the exim binary right from the build directory on both
machines. On the prod server, it is identical to the test server, with
two exceptions. It lacks the following two lines which the exim binary
on the test machine shows:

         libmysqlclient.so.15 => not found
         libz.so.1 => /usr/lib/libz.so.1 (0xb7e66000)

Also, the production server binary is much larger, 2419242 vs. 776199 bytes.

So maybe the mysql and libz stuff was compiled statically on the other
server? But what environment setting or invisible makefile switch could
make it do that? The makefile is the same as far as I can see.
