Your primary problem is that you've configured exim to accept mail for shaw.ca. You are most definitely not providing Internet mail services for your cable provider, so take shaw.ca out of your local domains list/file first. That way the smarthost router will kick in and send the mail out via whichever servers it's configured to talk to. The comments about Debian do stand to a certain degree, however - you should always start by reading the docs that come with the package you've installed, which would have directed you to the debian-specific mailing list. The residents there would be very happy to help, or to pass you up here as necessary. More generally it would have helped if you'd stated your OS and version of Exim, too.
