I'm not aware of other options. I think it's not "unsetting" the user. It's defining proper values instead of using the - in this case inadequate - defaults;-) IIRC there is a bug open to remove the whole lmtp transport in favor to the smtp transport with protocol = lmtp. But the smtp transport lacks support for unix sockets. On the other hand it supports many other things the lmtp transport doesn't support. eg. logging the final LMTP answer (C=).
