Have you found an email recipient that doesn’t accept email from IPv4 addresses? If you really want to use IPv6, then move to an ISP that supports it properly.
I think you misunderstand my aim. I don't want to use ipv6, nor do I want to avoid it. I simply want my server to work. Apparently gmail. has taken the position that if there is any hint of ipv6 in the headers and and there is no pty record they reject the email.
I found a configuration for postfix which created allowed a list of domain which would only use ipv4, that fixed my problem. gmail accepts ipv4 only email just fine.
As to comments on why I would want to use the debian structure, that is because I decided long ago when administering SunOC servers that I would make as few changes in the system configurations as possible as my changes invariable made upgrading more difficult and harder to track.
