Hi,
the local host reverse lookup with the error message text was
done by a reverse_host_lookup in ACL acl_smtp_mail.
I removed this so acl_smtp_mail got empty (accept).
After I switched to non-localhost-handling DNS servers again
I got I timeout exim connecting to amavis port 10024.
At least I suppose, is this correct?

timeout after initial connection: Connection timed out

Well, there is something weird with localhost here...
