I'm including it here so in case anyone here are unfamiliar with it.

Using [] in this specific context of Exim configuration is not possible due
to conflict with already-established usage.  Even a brief reading of the
documentation would raise it as a red flag.

Hence my comment on wanting to redo the whole area.

v6-mapped ipv4 addresses are supported by the new coding.
