Yes, that will work ... I had spotted that but wondered if there was an easier 
way.

This does not really solve the tainted issue as it just means that the called
script/program just gets values from the environment rather than command line
arguments.

Fortunately the script is my own, so it will be easy to hack it to recognise
that an argument ENV:subject means look at $subject from the environment.
