On 2025-10-28 at 13:01:18 UTC-0400 (Tue, 28 Oct 2025 18:01:18 +0100) Marc Haber via Exim-users <[email protected]> is rumored to have said:
This would actually not be that big an issue if exim upstream would stop complaining about that.
Is it "complaining" or just stating the truth to those who *do* complain that use of the exim4 name is a Debian choice that "upstream" has no influence over?
The complaints come from your users. That does not mean that you're in the wrong, it just means that a Debian decision 25ya has led to Debian users being confused today. As you've noted, it is an entirely manageable circumstance as long as users know what's going on, and likely less problematic than trying to unmake that old choice.
I guess that by far the largest number of exim's installation base comes from our exim4 packages, so accepting that will probably help novice users to be less confused.
I think this reflects an ignorance of how many instances of CPanel are out there, running on EL-derived distros.
