If it is new piece, it should be possible. Old is a problem.

I have just a little experience with musical instruments and art, none with
swords.

Generally he will need to get a "passport" for it (for artwork there are
local art museums registered to do this) that verifies its authenticity,
date made, etc.

The forge may know how to do this, but best to check with a museum about
registration of pieces of art.

When it comes to collecting, I'll stick with pens

Subject: Expat List Exporting a sword?

Weird question, but here it is...

I have a friend in Australia who's a blacksmith and a blade collector (he's
got like 300 blades in his collection). He has commissioned in Russia the
forging of an authentic Shashka (a Cossack shortsword, for all I know), and
would like to get it home.

Has anyone had any experience with this kind of thing? I'm *positive* that
there are some art and/or weapons collectors among y'all.

Best regards,

-Alex
