Been offline due to Stream messing around with my settings and engineers just
wanting money when they've come around to fix the problem.

8 days later, I still have no internet in my apartment and Stream say it will
be "another 2 days" for the 3rd time. Akado are installing wireless internet
and 80 channel tv tomorrow am.

XP/Asus drivers for my wifi were installed in 2 mins by the first engineer. The
only thing that they did right. I'm now wireless in Scandinavia!!!

Overall, I've had the most horrific experience in the last week and am sick of
computers. My laptop won't be coming on holiday with me next week!!!

Thanks to everyone who offered help and ideas....I really appreciate it.

Regards,

Nick

Just some more background on the issue....

The problem is that the Asus website specifically does NOT have
drivers for the items in the model that Nick bought. I spent quite
some time trying to figure out - one way or another - which model of
wireless adapter, built-in ethernet adapter, bluetooth, chipset, etc.
was in the system. I even wrote to Asus Tech Support who said, more or
less, "too bad. This model doesn't support XP." Which any computer
expert knows is nonsense - since there is no device out there which
supports Vista but XP.

Secondly, regarding Vista, I've heard nothing but negative comments
from all my clients who have or have had Vista. What with the security
issues, the annoying "Do you want to permit this action? Confirm or
deny?" messages that appear everywhere and also Nick's stated desire
to stick with XP instead of learning a new OS - it was not an unusual
or uncommon suggestion to downgrade to XP. It's something I've done
hundreds of times, and not once has there been a problem. Not until now.

My $0.02.
