All information about advance ticket purchase can be found on the
website for Formula Kino Evropa.
And yes- all films in English with Russian subtitles! (The one
exception I believe is Julie & Julia...)

Also - can one but tickets well in advance, say, for several over
throughout the festival? No non-answer-machine number for enquiries
is given on the site. Thanks.

Thanks for this very useful! Am I right to assume all movies will
be shown in the original language?

Dear Moscow friends,
I wanted to send out a special announcement about the Fourth Annual
American Film Festival of Moscow, which will be taking place this
week!
October 7-14th at the Formula Kino Evropa cinema on the 3rd floor in
the Evropeisky Shopping Center by Kievsky.
The festival features recent releases, indie films, incredible
documentaries, and some Moscow Premieres.
Among them are truly incredible independent films that you will
never get another chance to see in Moscow.
Here is a link to the festival website where you can see all the
trailers of the films and find the schedule.

I hope you'll pay special attention to our unique documentary
program, four diverse and incredible films that are some of the best
examples of independent non-fiction filmmaking today. All of the
directors of the films will be present in Moscow!
The films include-
Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired
Роман Полански: разыскиваемый и
желанный
Year: 2008
Director: Marina Zenovich
Official website <http://www.romanpolanskiwantedanddesired.com/>
Marina Zenovich's new documentary examines the public scandal and
private tragedy which led to legendary director Roman Polanski's
sudden flight from the United States.
Revisiting many of the key players in the case, and without
apologizing for its title character, the film explores the tragedies
that might have influenced Polanski's behavior, as well as the
little-known specifics of the case.
This film is obviously very timely, and director Zenovich will be
flying in directly from Zurich due to Polanski's unexpected arrest.
The film has recently won 2 Emmys.
October Country
Осенняя страна
Year: 2009
Director: Michael Palmieri, Donal Mosher
Official website <http://www.octobercountryfilm.com/>
October Country is a beautifully filmed portrait of an American
family struggling for stability while haunted by the ghosts of war,
teen pregnancy, foster care and child abuse. With rarely seen
intimacy, sensitivity and respect, this vibrant documentary examines
the forces that unsettle the working poor and the violence that
lurks beneath the surface of American life.
Curator's note: This film is exquisite. A work of art I highly
recommend that not be missed! Please see the trailer.
Racing Dreams
Мечты гонщика
Year: 2009
Director: Marshall Curry
Official website <http://www.racingdreamsfilm.com/>
Racing dreams follows three kids during a pivotal, career-making or
breaking year, who dream of one day racing in NASCAR.
Marshall Curry takes us into the lives of Annabeth (11 years old),
Josh (12), and Brandon (13) as they compete for the World Karting
Association’s National Championship. Clocking speeds of up to 70
mph in extreme racing karts, these young racers hope to follow the
scores of great NASCAR drivers who got their start in racing’s
version of the little league.
As they race their way through the year-long Championship series,
they also navigate the treacherous road between childhood and young
adulthood. In intimate moments of young love and family struggle we
experience a time in life when all of us are just beginning to
figure out who we are.
Trouble the Water
Мутная вода
Year: 2008
Director: Carl Deal, Tia Lessin
Official website <http://www.troublethewaterfilm.com/>
Trouble the Water takes you inside Hurricane Katrina in a way never
before seen on screen. It's a redemptive tale of two self-described
street hustlers who become heroes-two unforgettable people who
survive the storm and then seize a chance for a new beginning.
The film opens the day before the storm makes landfall-twenty-four
year old aspiring rap artist Kimberly Rivers Roberts is turning her
new video camera on herself and her 9th Ward neighbors trapped in
the city. "It's going to be a day to remember," Kim declares. With
no means to leave the city and equipped with just a few supplies and
her hi 8 camera, she and her husband Scott tape their harrowing
ordeal as the storm rages, the nearby levee breaches, and
floodwaters fill their home and their community.
Seamlessly weaving 15 minutes of this home movie footage shot the
day before and the day of the storm, with archival news segments and
verite footage shot over two years, directors Tia Lessin and Carl
Deal document a journey of remarkable people surviving not only
failed levees, bungling bureaucrats and armed soldiers, but also
their own past.
This film was nominated for Academy Award for Best Documentary, and
won the Grand Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2008
(among other awards.)
These award-winning notable films are a powerful entry into the
personal, political, and cultural spheres of American life. They are
also some of the best examples of the strong non-fiction independent
films that exists at this exciting time - when documentaries are an
increasing presence in movie theatres across the United States. We
are delighted to be able to bring them to you in Moscow. We hope you
will take advantage of the chance to meet the filmmakers too!
