Welcome to "Explore Russia" free lectures! 

We are delighted to announce to you that on January 27th 2010 we’ll open our 
free lectures "Explore Russia", in Moscow State University of Railway 
Engineering, on Obrazcova 15, at 11-00.

The theme of the first lecture is Russia and the former USSR 

Introduction: 
* General features (huge dimensions, 11 time zones, diversity of nature and 
cultures of resident peoples, 59 properties included in UNESCO World Heritage 
List)
* Cultural sightseeing: history, architecture, fine arts, handycrafts, 
ethnography
* Nature sightseeing: All zones except the tropics (tundra, taiga, steppes, 
deserts, subtropics, alpine meadows, snowcapped peaks and glaciers). Unique 
objects (Baikal Lake, Kamchatka volcanoes and geysers, Altai mountains, Komi 
virgin forests, Western Caucasus, Wrangel Island etc) 
* The most popular destinations (Moscow, St.Petersburg, Golden Ring)
* Russian North - treasury of old Russian traditions (stone and wooden 
architecture, handicrafts, folklore, lifestyle)
* Remote destinations (Altai, Baikal, Yakutia, Kamchatka, Chukotka - wild 
nature and ethnography)
* Trans-Siberian railway
* River and sea cruises (Moscow - St.Petersburg, Volga River, Siberian rivers, 
Baikal, Far East, Arctic)
* Beyond Russia - other countries of the former USSR (from Baltic Sea - to 
Central Asia)
* Where to go in winter
